Dr. Antonio I. Fernández Domínguez, IFIMAC Researcher, has obtained a “Beca Leonardo a Investigadores y Creadores Culturales 2019” awarded by the BBVA Foundation. This grant scheme aims to support scientists and culture makers who, being at intermediate stages in their careers, carry out highly innovative and personal works. His project “Nano-Óptica Cuántica de Transformación” focuses on the development of analytical tools to describe nonclassical light emission by nanometric devices.

Antonio I. Fernández Domínguez received M.S. and Ph.D. (Hons.) degrees in Condensed Matter Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Between 2009 and 2014, he held Research Associate and Marie Curie Fellow positions at Imperial College London, UK. In 2014, he was awarded a Marie Curie Integration Grand and Ramón y Cajal Senior Fellowship in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he is now an Associate Professor in the Departamento de Física Teórica de la Materia Condensada. His research focuses on the theoretical description of plasmon-assisted light/matter interactions and quantum optical phenomena at the nanoscale, as well as the applied design of photonic metamaterials.
