IFIMAC Gold Sponsor of the Pint of Science Festival: 20-22 May 2019, Madrid Edition

During May 20-22 2019, researchers across 24 countries will be sharing their discoveries with a wide diversity of people in their local pub, bar or cafe. The Global Science Festival “Pint of Science” aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest science research in an accessible format to the public in hundreds of cities or towns.

This year, the edition of Pint of Science in Madrid will be sponsored by the Condensed Matter Physics Center (IFIMAC) of the Autonomous University of Madrid. Six different scientific areas will be covered in parallel during the three days in different places:

  • Tech me out.
  • My body.
  • Planet Earth.
  • Our society.
  • Wonderful mind.
  • Atoms and Galaxies.

Moreover, three IFIMAC members (Linda Angela Zotti and Miguel Angel Ramos in Madrid, and César González in Segovia) will be speakers this year!

HISTORY of PINT of SCIENCE: In 2012 Dr Michael Motskin and Dr Praveen Paul were two research scientists at Imperial College London, UK. They started and organised an event called ‘Meet the Researchers’. It brought people affected by Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis into their labs to show them the kind of research they do. It was inspirational for both visitors and researchers. They thought if people want to come into labs to meet scientists, why not bring the scientists out to the people? And so Pint of Science was born. In May 2013 they held the first Pint of Science festival in just three UK cities. It quickly took off around the world and now happens in nearly 300 cities.
