Yesterday, mayors, education councillors and representatives of the business and innovation community from the neighbouring towns of Alcobendas, San Sebastian de los Reyes, Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo, which surround UAM, got to know IFIMAC as one of the highlights of the mayors’ official visit to UAM. Led by our Rector, Amaya Mendikoetxea, and the Vice Rector for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, Felix Zamora, they met with IFIMAC members Isabel Guillamon, Iván Brihuega, Ferry Prins and our Director, Ruben Pérez.
During the tour, Isabel Guillamon gave an overview of her pioneering research and the state-of-the-art laboratory dedicated to tunneling microscopy measurements under extreme conditions, with magnetic fields of more than 20 T and temperatures close to absolute zero. The visitors then explored the Photonic Nanomaterials Laboratory, led by Ferry Prins, and the Graphene and 2D Materials Laboratory, led by Iván Brihuega. Here they gained valuable insights into the ongoing research efforts in nanophotonics and 2D materials respectively, and appreciated the technological potential of the unique, world-class scientific instrumentation developed and built at IFIMAC.
