The “Plonck” team from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) achieved a remarkable 20th place among 46 international teams in the PLANCKS 2025 physics competition held in Barcelona, positioning themselves as the second-best Spanish team. Team members Alejandro Izquierdo, Daniel Ruano, Lara Suárez, and Marcos Puerto advanced through the national preliminaries, qualifying as one of the five Spanish teams for the international final.
The PLANCKS competition (Physics League Across Numerous Countries for Kick-ass Students), organized by the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS), brought together outstanding students from 29 countries who faced challenges in various areas such as astrophysics and quantum computing. The event included lectures by renowned scientists, including Anne L’Huillier (2023 Nobel Prize in Physics), visits to research centers like ICFO and the ALBA synchrotron, as well as cultural activities throughout Barcelona.
The IFIMAC extends its warmest congratulations to the Plonck team members, talented students who are currently conducting their research projects under the guidance of IFIMAC members.
