As part of Cultural Week 2025 at Majadahonda Professional Music Conservatory, physicist Francesca Maria Marchetti presented her workshop “Good Vibrations: The Physics of Music” on April 4th. This hands-on experience revealed the hidden science of musical sounds, demonstrating how vibrations transform into the melodies we enjoy.
Participants discovered what gives each instrument its unique sound and explored the fascinating world of harmonics. Through practical demonstrations, attendees witnessed how standing waves, resonance, and Fourier analysis explain everything from a violin’s rich timbre to a flute’s airy tones.
This engaging fusion of physics and musicality showed that music is, at its core, waves in motion.
