A team of Madrid researchers develops solar cells based on two-dimensional materials that promise to transform the renewable sector. The APE2SOL project, led by researchers Elisa Antolín Fernández and Juan José Palacios Burgos, has been awarded the III Naturgy Foundation-CSIC Prize for its innovative proposal to develop a new generation of solar cells.
The initiative, which will receive €100,000 in funding, is based on the anomalous photovoltaic effect using two-dimensional (2D) materials, a disruptive technology in the field of renewable energy.
The researchers, belonging to the Solar Energy Institute of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Autonomous University of Madrid, will work for two years on this proof of concept.
The project was selected from 18 proposals from across Spain. The developed technology seeks to directly contribute to the country’s energy transition and emissions reduction objectives. [Read more]
