Characterisation of Nanostructured and Bulk Materials for Energy Conversion Applications

Characterisation of materials and devices is a key task to understand the processes that govern the performance of the devices. Currentvoltage (I-V) and electrochemical impedance techniques have proven to be very useful characterisation methods. Essential properties such as the density of states, diffusion coefficients, reaction dynamics and thermal properties, can be derived using suitable physical models when interpreting the experimental results. This seminar will provide an overview of the information that can be obtained from different energy related devices such as solar cells, organic conductors, electrochromics and thermoelectrics, from I-V and impedance results. These devices involve the use of both nanostructured and bulk materials, that play a fundamental role in the process of energy conversion.
