We review recent experimental and theoretical work on three features of graphene of significant fundamental relevance: i) The anharmonic features of graphine, and their consequences for its elastic properties [1], ii) The modification of the spinorbit coupling by intercalation of heavy elements, and the emergence of new gauge fields [2], and iii) The way the electronic transport properties are determined by random train fluctuations [3].
