Description of the projects
Superconducting Spintronics – This PhD project aims to uncover novel intriguing phenomena emerging from an interplay between superconducting order and magnetic order. Conventional superconductors comprise of spin singlet Cooper pairs that are devoid of a net spin. By employing spin active materials, such as magnets or strong spin-orbit coupled metals, these spinless Cooper pairs can be engineered to bear a finite spin angularmomentum making the superconductor “unconventional”. These can host states with unprecedented properties, making way for interesting physics and technologically relevant devices. See https://sites.google.com/view/kamra/research and http://webs.ftmc.uam.es/juancarlos.cuevas/Research/ for some concrete examples of past projects.
Quantum Magnonics – This PhD project aims to uncover quantum properties of ordered magnets and their excitations. The quantum ground states of various magnets consist of distant spins entangled with each other described by a complicated many-body wavefunction. Hence, we often take a simple way out by averaging over several spins and obtain an analytically tractable description in terms of the spin excitations – magnons. We have recently shown that despite the simplification, this picture retains a lot of the quantum information. Uncovering novel quantum features of such magnets, we will aim to exploit them in futuristic technologies. See https://sites.google.com/view/kamra/research for some concrete examples of past projects.
